[Jed] Donnelley" From: Mary Engle Subject: Re: Broken promises and nonfeasance Cc: PHillier@ci.berkeley.ca.us, RChen@ci.berkeley.ca.us, oregonregent@yahoogroups.com I was one of the neighbors who attended the recent Traffice Commission meeting and asked the City to reconsider the sweeping plan that so impacted the entire area north of Ashby and west of College Ave. I am sorry that the City planners and traffic engineers feel they have to take all plans off the table as a result of the discussion and concerns expressed by these residents. I am also sorry to see that people feel it necessary to file suit over this matter rather than looking at what the residents said and asking city engineers to focus on this intersection immediately. Notes from the meeting would clearly state that no one seemed to take issue with the right turn at Benevenue. There were even other, more drastic measures for that intersection that no one objected to; in fact most people expressed support for such. Can Peter Hillier begin his tenure by focusing staff on that intersection until the residents surrounding it consider that, at least, the traffic problems have been addressed and accidents reduced? Unless I missed what was going on in the discussion, I do not think there would be any objection to immediate intervention at that intersection. Mary Engle 2836 Regent
