I was at the Thursday meeting and was surprised that all but one was from Benvenue - one who did not support the RT-only. Those at the meeting represented 150+ neighbors from Oregon, Regent, Russell, Florence, Stuart and Debry, most of whom just learned about the planned measures along Telegraph and Ashby. Something clearly has to be done about the accidents on Benvenue, as well as the safety along Ashby and Telegraph. But all these RTs-only at Telegraph and Ashby, were planned in isolation. Also, while it is debatable whether these measures will work, they are sure to make every Willard resident's commute more difficult and affect quality of life. With the projected increased traffic on most of Willard streets (as a result of the measures), the accidents will only move from that corner. All this while the rest of the neighborhoods surrounding us are safe behind barriers. Those barriers and increased traffic are the causes for the accidents - why should Willard suffer alone for it? The residents at the meeting did not intend to derail ALL the RTs-only. I left the meeting early assuming the Commission would recommend implementation of the temporary measures at Benvenue as well as a redesign on Russell/Tele, but apparently, they postponed the former. Staff and Commission members realized that the piecemeal approach is not working and decided to take a step back before making matters worse. After noticing that no one from your corner of Willard was present, I anticipated this response. Someone suggested that the "lower" Willard folks discus all traffic issues that affect us - we are not organized like Bateman and CENA, and our issues are different from those north of Derby. I trust residents will hear each other out at the next Traffic meeting, and take it from there. Ignacio Dayrit
