Computer and Communication Categories
Note - The Computer and Communication pages only accept registrations for sites that are directly relevant to the computer and/or communication theme. We do not accept sites that deliver unsolicited audio (imagine such a site being visited from an office cubicle and you will understand the restriction). Every site submitted for indexing is visited and reviewed to determine its relevance to the computer and/or communication theme. The submitted site descriptions are edited in accordance with our theme and our usage of common terminology. We offer the opportunity for registered sites to update their descriptions, but we reserve editorial priviledge. We have a firm policy allowing any site to delete its registered entry if they feel the registration is inappropriate. The C&C pages have been accepting registrations and offering indexing services since 1993, during the earliest days of the World Wide Web. We hope you find this service useful.
Registrations, updates, and deletions can be requested through our Registration Page.
Most sites registering with the Computer and Communication pages are appropriately registered as:
1. Companies. If you are in business and selling a product or service you most likely fit into this category. We do not generally accept subdivisions, subsidiaries, or other subdivisions of companies. We expect that the parent company will provide indexing for their subsidiaries.
We also offer sections for other more specialized registrations:
2. Organizations. If you are a non profit organization, a professional organization, a promotional society or the like you fit into the "Organization" category.
3. Media. Online magazines, newspapers, etc. fit into this category. Sites are only listed here if they have substantial online free (not access controlled) content. The parent organization of online publications that are access controled can be listed in the "Companies" section.
4. Programs and Projects. These are generally academic programs or projects, though some industry collaborative projects that may not fit into the "Organization" category may fit here.
5. Standards. Pointers to direction information about computer, communication, or other information technology standards (either from standard organizations or proprietary standards) may be indexed here.
6. Usenet Groups and FAQs. Pretty self explanatory. Indexes various Usenet news groups that are relevant to the computer and communication theme along with FAQs (if available) about them.
Each of the above sections has a corresponding cross reference section. These sections are for indexing other sites that provide indexing or search engines for entries in the corresponding category.
In addition we offer a general Computer and Communication cross reference, generally for sites similar to the Computer and Communication pages. Different sites may have different emphasis, organization, strengths and weaknesses, etc. We believe in open cross referencing to let readers choose.
Finally we have a "Compendium" section with links to direct reading material relevant to the Computer and/or Communication theme. These links point to papers, essays, or other documents that are relevant to this theme without being an indexing or searching resource directly.
We hope this section helps to clarify the choices available to you when submitting your computer and/or communication related content to the C&C pages. Please feel free to contact us at registrations@webstart.com for any questions you may have about registrations or any other aspect of the Computer and Communication pages. Thanks for your interest.
